About
WHAT KİK IS
Kinetik İşler Kolektifi (KİK) is a production platform bringing together the disciplines of art, technology and movement. Across independent art productions and industrial and cultural collaborations, we investigate the design, conceptual and systemic potential of a project. In our work we bring together digital algorithms, mechanical systems and analogue materials to build interactive installations and experience spaces that people can step into.
How We Work
Research and Concept
Every project opens with a question. We study the space, the material and the visitor's movement on site, and build the conceptual framework together with the institution.
Design and Engineering
We turn the idea into a 3D model and the mechanism into technical drawings. How the moving parts will work is resolved at this stage.
Prototype
We make and test samples of the critical parts in the workshop. We see how the material and the mechanism actually behave before we go on site.
Production
We produce the series parts and the bespoke fabrication. Because the team that draws the design is the team that builds it, nothing is lost in between.
Installation
We install the work on site and set the light and movement to the conditions of the space itself.
Maintenance
Work with moving parts needs maintenance over time. After installation we continue to provide periodic checks and technical support.
Team
Özgür Kavurmacıoğlu
An architect researching the relationship between movement, time and space. Founder of Kinetik İşler Kolektifi (KİK), the production platform that brings art, technology and movement together.
He completed his doctorate in the Department of Architecture at Beykent University with a thesis titled “Movement and Time-Dependent Algorithmic Modelling in Architectural Design: Mathematical Curves Under the Influence of Natural Phenomena”. Against the conventional approach that puts the finished product at the centre, his research examines design as the ability to build and steer a process. Starting from real-time data of a sphere moving in nature, it sets out the mathematical curves that form under forces such as gravity and wind, and the surface variations those curves generate. What it proposes in the end is not a fixed form but an open-source model of a design process that can adapt to any situation.
He has worked in circus arts since 2009; that experience of how bodies and objects move feeds his approach to design. With KİK he makes kinetic installations, exhibition designs and stage designs, among them “Portal” at the Binbirdirek Cistern and “Yüzyılın İzdüşümü” at the Museum of the Republic. The set for “Cehennem Çiçeği”, which he designed together with Fırat Dövencioğlu and Umut Kambak, was named Best Stage Design of the Year at the 28th Yapı Kredi Afife Theatre Awards.
He continues his work as an independent researcher and takes part in a biomaterials study run with Gebze Technical University.
Umut Kambak
An artist working in ceramics and the plastic arts. Co-founder of Kinetik İşler Kolektifi (KİK).
He began his education in the Department of Plastic Arts at Kemerburgaz University in 2011 and continued in the Department of Ceramics at Hacettepe University in 2012. Through the Erasmus programme he worked at the University of West Hungary and at the International Ceramics Studio in Kecskemét. He completed his bachelor's degree in 2016 and, in 2019, his master's with a thesis titled “Art Practices on the City and Belonging”. He is pursuing his doctorate in fine arts in the Department of Basic Art and Design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University.
His solo exhibitions include “Mümkün Dünyalar” (Müze Evliyagil, Ankara, 2019), “Palimpsest” (Galeri Siyah Beyaz, Ankara, 2019), “Autre” (Bilsart, Istanbul, 2019) and “Düşlerin İlk Günü” (Fikret Otyam Art Centre, Ankara, 2025).
Group exhibitions and biennials include “Takt” (Rahmi M. Koç Museum, Ankara, 2021), the Çanakkale Biennial “How Do We Work Together?” (2022), “İyi Bak Dünyaya” with Kale Design and Art Centre (Ritz Carlton, Istanbul, 2024) and “1000 Vases” (Paris Design Week, 2026), where he showed the work “Elibelinde”.
In 2019 he won the Faruk Sade Art Fund with a documentary project. In 2021 he received an award at the Martinsons Awards; the winning work entered the collection of the Mark Rothko Art Centre. In 2026 he received Best Stage Design of the Year at the 28th Yapı Kredi Afife Theatre Awards for the set of “Cehennem Çiçeği”, designed with Fırat Dövencioğlu and Özgür Kavurmacıoğlu, and, with the art direction team of “MUTTER: A Mother's Memory Book”, Best Art Director at the 33rd Adana Golden Boll International Film Festival.
Afife Theatre Awards — Best Stage Design of the Year
The stage and set we designed for “Cehennem Çiçeği”, adapted from the novel by Alper Canıgüz, brought together live cinema, toy theatre and diorama techniques.

Our workshop in Rasimpaşa, Kadıköy is both our production space and the home of KİK Space. From the drawing table to fabrication, from prototype to final assembly, the process runs under one roof.
The space holds 3D printers, ceramic production equipment and a kiln, and benches for electronic and mechanical assembly. For specialist processes such as CNC cutting and metal and timber fabrication we work with craftspeople we have known for years.
The space is open to visitors. We run our workshop and seminar programmes, the artist residency and small-scale exhibitions here.
What We Do
We work in five fields. Each stands on its own, and most projects are born where several of them meet.
Contact
We are open to new ideas, collaborations and shared production.
